Two days packed with free activities for all ages, focused on environmental education: talks, games, workshops, tastings… The central theme is discovering the wonders of our sea and our region, but also raising awareness of how important it is to commit to protecting this environment, which is as vital as it is fragile.

The event is organized by CEAS Riviera del Beigua in collaboration with the Municipality of Albissola Marina and is part of the initiatives of the Liguria Region’s project to carry out information and awareness-raising activities aimed at local institutions and civil society regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The first event will take place on Thursday, November 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the MUDA Exhibition Center on Via dell’Oratorio, featuring “Aperitivo con la Scienza.” A stand-up talk on the Mediterranean featuring Emilio Mancuso, marine biologist and underwater photographer at Verdeacqua – Institute for Marine Studies.

When discussing “environmental” issues, we often focus on best practices: what to do… what not to do… how to do it—but we pay too little attention to the “why,” which risks causing us to stop acting like responsible citizens over time.

The event featuring Emilio Mancuso, a marine biologist and underwater photographer with Verdeacqua, aims to remind us why it is essential to come together to promote greater knowledge and awareness of the Mare Nostrum—and the world’s oceans—for the future of our species as well as for the health of the sea itself. We are ALL interconnected with the sea; let’s try to understand why (images and videos by Emilio Mancuso; aperitif and tasting hosted by Chef Giorgio Baracco; reservations required; limited seating).

The second event will take place on Saturday, November 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on the Lungomare degli Artisti, in front of the public beach.

A beach cleanup is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in collaboration with the Savona Provincial Chapter of Assonautica (please bring your own gloves).

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., “Out and About with the Camera,” an environmental-themed photography marathon (reservations appreciated); it will be a fun challenge to combine photography and the environment, interpreting surprise themes that will be revealed throughout the day, all linked by the common thread of sustainability.

Participants will compete on three surprise themes, exploring Albissola Marina and taking photos that capture the proposed themes in an original, fun, and creative way.

You can participate individually or in small teams, using any digital camera. Minors may also participate if accompanied by an adult.

One photo will be awarded for each assigned theme, as well as the photo with the most votes on Facebook and the best photo in the youth category. Prizes include gift cards for sports equipment: the rules and all the details are available at the following link: https://www.cearivierabeigua.it/it/news/spasso-con-lobiettivo-albissola-marina-2024.

And also the escape room “Gaia’s Journey – When Together We’ll Change the Future” (reservations required, recommended for ages 9 and up; sessions every half hour, teams of up to 6 participants, and children must be accompanied by an adult): an innovative and engaging activity to test your knowledge on highly topical environmental issues such as waste, climate, oceans, and best practices! From a future where the world seems on the brink of catastrophe, a young girl returns to the present day to understand what went wrong so she can change her future—and ours.

Will the participants be able to help her? Because we can still decide the future together. Puzzles to solve, clues to decipher, experiments to try… Only by doing so will you be able to obtain the codes you need to advance in the game, help the environment, and learn best practices for protecting it!

Teams have 60 minutes to uncover all the clues.

From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., “Sailor’s Knots for Young Sea Wolves,” a workshop on sailor’s knots (minors must be accompanied by an adult), an initiative organized by the Savona Provincial Chapter of Assonautica.

Also from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the topic of recycling will be covered, with an information booth run by SAT on proper practices for managing municipal waste.
